7. Project Ezra

Who does it:
Temple Shalom in New York, NY
What they do:
Volunteers take individuals shopping, provide home visits, and facilitate medical assistance.
Time commitment:
2-4 hours per day.
Who they do it for and why:
On any given Sunday in the Spring, the elderly people served by Project Ezra are "Honored Guests for a Day." Congregants provide "honored guests" with lunch, entertainment, a take-home bag of food and other assorted goodies.
We would need:
¨ Someone to determine if such a service is presently provided in the Tulsa area. If so, does that organization need volunteers?
¨ If no such service presently exists, someone would need to determine how many elderly persons - both in the Jewish community and in the community at large - would benefit from such a service. That information is probably available from social service agencies.
¨ One or more persons willing to assume leadership of the project and manage it.
¨ A pool of volunteers willing to undergo brief (one hour) training, then to commit to participating in the program on a scheduled basis.
